Child Safety Standards Policy

Last updated: 2025-01-01

Mako is steadfast in its commitment to creating a secure and supportive environment for our users, with a particular focus on the safety and welfare of children. Our Child Safety Standards Policy is a testament to our dedication to safeguarding children's privacy, well-being, and protection from harm. In acknowledgment of the inherent vulnerabilities of minors, we enforce stringent safeguards and advocate for conscientious practices that give precedence to children's safety across all digital and physical interactions. Mako scrupulously observes the rigorous protocols established by Google's child safety measures, in addition to upholding international and domestic legal requirements.

Mako maintains an uncompromising policy against any misconduct, exploitation, or sexualization involving minors, demonstrating zero tolerance. We proactively enforce policies that serve to shield individuals under the age of 18 from harm. Users who contravene these policies, as delineated herein, may face suspensions from Mako services and are also liable to face legal consequences.

  1. Scope of Policy

All Mako users and their conduct are subject to this policy, which encompasses activities such as user-generated content, interactive behavior, reporting processes, and moderation of content.

  1. Policies

Age Verification

Upon registering, users are obligated to verify their age. Access to Mako and its services is restricted to those aged 18 and above. Discovery of any user that has falsified their age during registration will lead to the suspension of their account.

Strictly Prohibited Activities

To rigorously prevent CSEA (Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) and CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material), Mako employs both automated mechanisms and manual review. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Inappropriate behavior directed toward a child (e.g., touching or caressing).
  2. Child grooming (e.g., forming a friendship with a child online to facilitate sexual contact and/or exchanging explicit images with that child).
  3. Sexualization of a minor (e.g., depictions that encourage, promote, or depict sexual abuse or material that could lead to the sexual exploitation of children).
  4. Sextortion (e.g., coercion or blackmail of a child through exposure or threatened exposure of intimate images).
  5. Trafficking of children (e.g., commercial sexual exploitation advertisement or solicitation).
  6. Child abuse (e.g., mistreatment of children in livestreams or coercing children to use our services).

Reporting Mechanisms

  1. Users who detect violations can report them within the app using the "!" icon found at the top right corner of the user profile or private chat screens by selecting "Report." Reports are addressed by our customer service team within 24 hours of submission.
  2. Users can access "Customer Service" in the app for direct engagement with our support team regarding any violations.
  3. Reports including evidence can be forwarded to our email [email protected], accompanied by relevant details such as user ID and violation screenshots.
  4. In cases that involve CSEA or CSAM, Mako will file a report with The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) or other pertinent authorities as mandated by applicable legislation.

Enforcement and Penalties

Following a review by our manual moderation team, the materials reported will be subject to penalties commensurate with the severity of the infraction. These sanctions may range from the removal of User-Generated Content (UGC) to warnings or up to and including account suspension.
